    This particular edition is in a Paperback format. Explain the thought process that went into the way you broke up the subject matter from the ACA Code of Ethics in your book. Students and new professionals would do well to err on the side of caution when they think about crossing a boundary with a client and to consult with seasoned colleagues before making exceptions to their customary boundaries. Students have often told us that they had never thought about certain ethical questions until they were confronted with cases that raised difficult issues or posed dilemmas that could not be neatly resolved. Our hope is that this casebook can be a tool to assist recent graduates and new counselors in obtaining a clearer idea of what is involved in the practice of aspirational ethics.

    What made you want to include case studies? Rather than making decisions about the client and for the client, counselors can promote dialogue with their clients about how boundaries are important and how best to manage them. There are 34 contributors to this edition of the casebook. It was thought provoking and I learned a lot. You can't get through an Ethics course without this book and you shouldn't be without it if you are already a counselor.

    I enjoy having the ACA Code of Ethics in the book as well as case studies that break down the different codes and makes it easier to understand the codes. Our hope is that this casebook can be a tool to assist recent graduates and new counselors in obtaining a clearer idea of what is involved in the practice of aspirational ethics. The Casebook also contains an Inventory of Attitudes and Beliefs About Ethical Issues to assist counselors in developing a personal ethical stance. As the counseling profession continues to become more global, this will be an ongoing challenge. Each individual standard of the Code is presented with an explanatory case vignette, and a Study and Discussion Guide is provided at the beginning of each major section of the Code to stimulate thought and discussion.

We strongly recommend this guide. Also, counselors seem to blur boundaries in inappropriate ways when their own needs get mixed into situations. For counselors, the key is to have a method of thinking through each decision, from reading the latest professional literature to brainstorming with colleagues.

The variety of perspectives of the contributors and the case studies will help students think about their position of the issues. Ethical, legal, and professional issues in counseling 4th ed. This book covers as much as it can within reason.
